What’s the best way to keep your self motivated to keep pursueing music. Recently I’ve found myself losing faith in my abilities. Do you have any advice? -Clay Wright
The best way I keep myself engaged in music is to keep setting up events that I need to show up for.
I just want to express how grateful I am for your music and your unique voice/perspective. Quick backstory: I’m a classically trained singer in my late twenties, and I have played banjo off and on for 3 years. I’ve recently made the decision to pursue bluegrass, as I have such an affinity for bluegrass, folk, and traditional Appalachian tunes. One thing I’ve been told is that I will have a hard time building up the speed and dexterity required for banjo pickin’, since I haven’t been training for the majority of my life. Do you have any advice, especially in regards to starting a bit later in life than is normal in this particular genre? Is three-finger banjo pickin’ (a la Scrugg/ your husband) a realistic goal at this point?

How do you balance motherhood with your desire to be creative? Do you have advice for fellow artists striving to find balance in their new roles as mothers?Abigail Washburn responded on 08/02/2018
